HEARING THE WORLD
Founded by Loic Gayot, Hearing The World is a creative project dedicated to documenting musical heritage, cultural diversity and human stories through film, sound and immersive media. The project was first launched in Cuba, where its initial edition explored the island's rich musical traditions and cultural identity through documentary filmmaking, live recordings and artist collaborations. This experience laid the foundation for an ongoing journey dedicated to preserving and sharing the world's musical heritage.Combining documentary filmmaking, live music and field recording, Hearing The World explores the unique relationship between people, traditions and the sounds that shape their identity. Through collaborations with musicians, artists and local communities, the project aims to preserve and share cultural expressions that are often overlooked or at risk of disappearing.A significant chapter of Hearing The World was developed in West Africa, particularly in Mali, in collaboration with the cultural initiative Équations Nomades, supported by UNESCO and UNICEF partners. Through films, live recordings and educational content, Loic documented traditional music, cultural transmission and community-based artistic projects.Among these collaborations is the work carried out with renowned kora master Madou Sidiki Diabaté, highlighting the richness of Mali's musical heritage and the importance of preserving traditional knowledge for future generations.More than a documentary project, Hearing The World is an ongoing exploration of culture through sound and image, creating bridges between communities and celebrating the diversity of our shared human experience.
